Fill 'er up blues
Assembly candidate Carol Pefley provides a useful primer as to why gas is so expensive in SV and all of CA. "California built a system where gas taxes rise automatically every year," she notes.
Once you stack taxes, fees, and fuel mandates, Sacramento is quietly siphoning about $1.35 extra per gallon.
The gas tax is now 63.4 cents per gallon, officially the highest in the nation. Diesel has climbed to 48.2 cents.
Every attempt to freeze or suspend the gas‑tax increase has been rejected by the Democrat legislative majority.
Most Californians don’t have the option to bike their kids to school or teleport to work. They drive because they have to and Sacramento knows this.
Families don’t get automatic raises, but the state gets automatic revenue. If a business did this, we’d call it gouging.
