☆ Stroll: CA pols are silent on the issues that matter

When it comes to homelessness, cost of living, infrastructure, and expensive legacy transit systems, politicians have been strangely silent. So says former State Assembly candidate Ted Stroll in an Opportunity Now exclusive comment for our series leading up to this year’s election:

It’s total silence.

On the one hand, we’re not hearing the usual “We will investigate the evil oil companies” when fuel prices jumped this time. It may be that politicians have figured out that years of these threats have come to nothing. There’s a world oil market and we consumers are price takers—and so are California’s oil companies! They can’t collude in any way that would affect the consequences of wars thousands of miles away. That politicians may have grasped Political Economy 101 and gone quiet is good.

On the other hand, if people running for state and local offices are saying much about homelessness, the cost of living generally, and infrastructure, I haven’t heard it. Extremely expensive legacy mass transit in Santa Clara County also meets with silence from our leaders. That is unfortunate.
