Weekend developments rearrange Measure A race
An active Sunday: The Merc comes out No on Measure A. And a lively, bipartisan No on A rally convenes a big crowd and growing list of local pols rejecting the county sales tax hike.
Merc op-ed thumbs down on A
In a measured (no pun intended!) and deeply researched commentary, the SJ Merc editorial board came out in opposition to the proposed county sales tax increase, noting that county "leaders should first rein in costs."
The Merc's rejection of the tax re-orders local power dynamics around tax policy, as it adds momentum to the broad centrist, fiscally-responsible coalition opposing A, and weakens the sway of the bloc of left-leaning politicians, labor unions, and non profits advocating for the tax hike.

Big No on A rally galvanizes county
Yesterday at the Cupertino Library, a large gathering came together to hear speakers from across Silicon Valley's political spectrum opposing the county's economically illiterate and punitive sales tax increase, Measure A. Cupertino Mayor Liang-Fang Chao, SV GOP Chair Dave Johnson, County Assessor candidates Rishi Kumar and Bryan Do, and former SJ CM Kansen Chu spoke opposing the measure, along with many others.
The left-wing SV Democratic Socialists of America, County Board of Supervisors and SJ Mayor Matt Mahan are in favor of the misguided tax hike, which would raise the sales tax rate in SJ to over 10%.
