County Assessor finalist Rishi Kumar surveys the post-election pro-Measure A infighting, and wonders, “Was this a bait-and-switch?” {From a No on A press release, Rishi Kumar (County Assessor candidate finalist,) chair.}

"In a plot twist nobody ordered, Measure A’s biggest cheerleaders can’t seem to agree on how to spend the very money they fought for. Hospitals? Public safety? Something else entirely?

"Even the county seems unsure—like a shopper holding a gift card with too many choices.

"County Executive James Williams recently announced he “recommends” spending all Measure A dollars on offsetting healthcare cuts. That announcement landed with the subtlety of a squirrel jumping onto a power line. The law enforcement groups who endorsed Measure A are… how do we put this politely… not amused.

"District Attorney Jeff Rosen—who literally celebrated the measure on election night—now says he might investigate whether voters were misled.

"Yes, you read that correctly.

"The DA may investigate the very measure that the DA supported.

"Meanwhile, voters who saw the county taxpayer funded mailers, police leaders and union officials are asking the same question thousands of residents are asking:
'Was this a bait-and-switch?'

'“Their words, not ours.

"Opposition groups warned early in the campaign that Measure A was vague, poorly structured, and lacked transparency. A lawsuit even tried to block it—unsuccessfully—but given recent developments, some voters are asking whether the lawsuit was simply ahead of its time."
