Lee coasting to Oakland mayor re-election
With four days until the candidate filing deadline, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee faces no major opponent in her reelection campaign. Moreover, Lee’s campaign is expected to unveil a host of endorsements to emphasize her lock on the field: Rep. Lateefah Simon, Assemblymembers Mia Bonta and Buffy Wicks, and state Sen. Jesse Arreguin.
Lee, who last year won a special election to finish the term of recalled and indicted former Mayor Sheng Thao, is seeking a full four-year term in November. While 14 other candidates have pulled papers to run, none have mounted serious challenges.
