☆ Verbica: Opposing Save Prop 13 is a "failure of leadership"
SJ City Council is considering yet another assault on Prop 13, which remains wildly popular with local residents. Peter Verbica unpacks the disconnect. An Opp Now exclusive.
"San Jose City Councilmembers who oppose the Save Prop 13 Act are out of sync with the hardworking residents who elected them. They claim the measure would cost the city millions in revenue and hinder programs for housing and homelessness. But their solution is always more taxes on property owners rather than cutting waste or living within their means.
"California already leads the nation in failure:
#1 in high income taxes
#1 in high gas prices
#1 in homelessness
Among the worst performing students nationally
Among the highest DMV fees
Among the worst in housing affordability
"Yet the answer from City Hall is still to reach deeper into residents’ pockets.
"Supporters of the Act correctly argue that it upholds the original intent of Proposition 13, helping long-term residents remain in their homes amid rising costs.
"The choice is clear: Trust hardworking taxpayers with strong protections or hand more power to feckless politicians who treat our homes as revenue sources."
