☆ Local leaders support Cupertino’s vote to oppose Measure A

Cupertino Mayor Liangfang Chao and the City Council called out Santa Clara County’s “suspicious special-election timing,” says Purissima Hills Water District Director Brian Holtz. By voting to oppose the sales tax hike, Cupertino demonstrated “true leadership” says County Assessor candidate Rishi Kumar. Silicon Valley Business Alliance Treasurer Pat Waite commends the “principled stance against Measure A.” An Opportunity Now exclusive commentary.

Brian Holtz, Elected Director at Purissima Hills Water District & Member of Silicon Valley Taxpayers Association:

We Libertarians and taxpayer advocates applaud the Cupertino City Council for opposing the Measure A 500 percent increase in the general sales tax rate, and for calling out its questionable “hospital” rationale and its suspicious special-election timing. In light of the 2022 county grand jury report that condemned misleading ballot measures, and recent examples of presidential disrespect for rule of law, it’s encouraging to see elected officials standing up for good governance.

Rishi Kumar, Candidate for Santa Clara County Assessor:

The Cupertino City Council’s 3–2 vote against Measure A demonstrates true leadership — not following the herd, but carefully reviewing the data and making an informed, independent decision in the best interest of residents.

Pat Waite, Treasurer at Silicon Valley Business Alliance:

I commend the Cupertino City Council's principled stance against Measure A. Too many local representatives and non-profits have jumped on the Measure A bandwagon, either swayed by proponents' misleading arguments or concerned about potential retribution by Santa Clara County if they fail to support this flawed ballot measure.
