☆ FUHSD board members: Community engagement essential

Soon-to-be-second-term Fremont Union High School District board members Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto (current president) and Rosa Kim (current VP) chat with Opp Now about cultivating board–constituent relationships — where both are informed and engaged with the other’s needs, platforms, and actions. An Opp Now exclusive.

Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto:

School board elections are and should be nonpartisan.

School board elections should not cost as much money as they do.

A positive is the ability to really get to meet and know the community you serve.

Rosa Kim:

I think communication with constituents is the most critical part. Candidates need to participate in every opportunity for sharing their thoughts. It could be forums, meet and greets, community meetings, or precinct walks.

Likewise, voters should engage in the best way possible to get to know the candidate better. This process allows candidates to see what voters care and care about, which helps them better shape themselves as elected officials.
