☆ Are CA and SV doomed by capital flight and homelessness? Kalm, Stroll demand pragmatic, not ideological governance.
Former CA Assembly candidate Ted Stroll hopes state governance turns from destructive ideologies to practical solutions. Meanwhile, Denise Kalm of Right on the Left Coast argues the Bay Area’s homeless should get housing conditionally, not housing first. An Opportunity Now exclusive look ahead to 2026.
Ted Stroll
In 2026, I'm looking forward to more steady, pragmatic progress for SJ, the county, and the state.
On my rather rundown block near downtown, I see fewer impaired homeless people. We used to have people in blankets who would scream and yell or have loud conversations with themselves. It's much improved. The Guadalupe River Trail and Guadalupe River Park are usable for the first time in recent memory. Matt Mahan’s weekly emailed bulletins charts strong accomplishments on homelessness since he was elected.
Our state legislature tilts at more windmills with each passing year and damaging the state's economy and urban vitality. A pragmatic governor and attorney general are more essential than ever.
Denise Kalm
I'm hoping conservatives get elected to change the tax and overspend climate in the area. I'm hoping that housing first is ended, as no one deserves a house. Only those who give up their bad habits, not taking psychoactive drugs as needed, abusing drugs and/or alcohol or being a criminal should qualify and they should have congregate housing only with immediate access to job training as well as help to get well.
I fear that the greedy pols will demand more and more money, making the rich leave. That we will see more socialism, which has never worked.
Predictions are tough, but given our governor and the domination of the Left, I predict the state will continue to get worse and worse—more crime (including illegals), more housing woes, more companies leaving the state, etc.
